- I can't believe we made it through a full week without a snow day. It's a good thing because we have been so busy.
- In Reading this week we are about half way through Where the Red Fern Grows. Billy now has his dogs and his hunting days have begun. Please ask your children to retell the story of Old Dan and Little Ann treeing their first coon. Make sure they include Billy and "The Big Tree", grandpa's solution to keep the coon in the tree and how the tree finally fell to the ground. After reading several chapters students are given and assessment and we correct it together. The boys and girls are thoroughly enjoying this book. I do hope they talk about it at home.
- For the next few weeks in Social Studies we will be reading about Life in the British Colonies, Life on the Plantations and Life on the Frontier. When we finish this Unit we will be moving on to Colonial Williamsburg and the American Revolution, always an interesting topic for the boys and girls.
- In Math we have been moving right along with multiplication of larger numbers with and without decimals. Students have also been practicing with the traditional method and area models. It is nice to see some improvements with multiplication. At home you could help by practicing multiplication facts with your children. It will make dividing and fractions a lot easier when we come to it.
- Next week in Science students will begin a Unit on Weather and types of storms. More information will follow next week.
