Weekly News - Update

  • NECAP's are complete and no make-ups this week. Next week we will go back to our regular schedule. I'm so excited to be getting back into a routine and I know the students are just as happy.
  • Math - Students have just about completed the mid-module math assessment. It is quite challenging for many of them. I am quite impressed with their effort. They really are trying. Good for them. The second part of the module will include the following skills: place value, rounding using standard and number word form, adding and subtracting decimals, and multiplying and dividing decimals.
  • Reading - Next week we will continue with Problem and Solution as well as descriptive writing. These concepts will finish up our unit on Text Structure. More information to come next Blog.
  • Social Studies - On Monday students will be introduced to their first in class project. Map of North American and the early tribes. They will read about the Early American Tribes in there books and with a partner they will locate information to put on their maps. They will create a map of North America, make a compass rose, and add the oceans. Students will add information about each tribes such as where they lived, their shelter, and interesting facts about each tribe. This will be an ongoing project.
  • Science - Our first unit in Science is Layers of the earth. More information will be posted when we begin our unit.
  • Students received their next at home project, "Mysterious Book Report". You can find the criteria in their homework folder. Students are to read a mystery book (This can also be part of their nightly reading), write a report that is 2 or more pages (Summarize the plot and include what the mystery was and who solved it), make a creative cover in the shape of something having to do with the book (For example, a Ghost, Tomb etc.)add an illustration page, and write a one page evaluation to describe why you chose this book, why it held your interest and why you would recommend it to one of your peers.
Thank you for your support during the NECAP's. As always thank you for your continued support from the homefront. Have a restful and fun weekend.
