Weekly News - Update

  • Tomorrow is the last day of Math NECAP's. I can't thank you enough for making sure your children are getting a good night's sleep, eating a healthy breakfast in the morning and a pep talk to stay focused and try their best. I am equally impressed with the effort students are putting in while taking the Math Assessment. I see such hard work going on throughout the test. Most students take up the whole time to complete their assessment. Let's hope their score reflect their hard work. Thanks again to student's and parents. Next week we will finish up with Writing NECAP's on Tuesday and Wednesday. This Friday we will practice a writing practice test.
  • Math - This week we are continuing to plug along in the math program. Students are finding the heavily based language program very challenging. Even through their frustration they are trying their best. It sure says a lot about their character. Please let me know of any concerns you have about your child dealing with this program. You can email me at mnolan@epschoolsri.com or write me a note in the student planner. This week we are finishing up two lessons and preparing to take the mid module assessment. Students will be assessed on: <, >, and = to whole numbers, fractions, decimals and exponent form, creating a place value chart from thousandths to millions, understand and apply terms such as "tens times as much" and "one tenth of", be able to round to the nearest hundreds, tens, ones, tenths, hundredths, and thousandths (using a vertical number line, convert centimeters to meters, write measurements in order from least to greatest, and be able to write numbers in standard form, expanded decimals, expanded form fractions, word for, and unit form.
  • During Reading this week students practiced math NECAP's. Thank you for making sure your children practice their homework. Please continue to tell your children how important it is to focus and work hard on all NECAP testing. On Friday we will practice a writing assessment for next weeks Writing NECAP's.
  • The first project "Map Maker Project" was a true success. It was such a pleasure to see such creative projects. I could see all the hard work they put into creating their own country. I was even more pleased to hear their essay's. The boys and girls were well spoken and did a wonderful job presenting their projects. It was very interesting to hear how countries were discovered, who discovered them and what it was like to live there. We had everything from Candy Land to Film Nation and United Sweets to Country's created from Students initials. Project will be displayed inside and outside the classroom. Feel free to stop in and see them in the morning before school or until 3:30 in the afternoon.
A special thank you for all you do to make your children's educational experience such a positive one. It is appreciated more than you could know. Have a restful weekend. Enjoy the long Columbus Day Weekend.

I hope your class is enjoying the book 'Something Upstairs' by Avi, and if they enjoyed it like our class did!
