- Happy Halloween!
- This has been a very busy week in room 19. Students have been working on writing stories, completing math worksheets, and researching tribal information with a partner to complete an in class map project.
- Social Studies - Students continued to find information about their tribes. They are using their Social Studies books and researching online. Students are to locate where each tribe originated, what type of shelter they built and additional important facts about each tribe. This project will be ongoing for several weeks to a month.
- Math - Students worked on multiplication of a decimal times a whole number. They were taught using the traditional and area algorithms. Students use their place value mats to help answer the problems. They are becoming place value masters. Next week we will bein dividing whole numbers by a decimal.
- Literacy - We finished up our Unit on Text Structure with Main Idea. Students practiced by reading articles and writing the main idea and supporting details. Next week we will begin our Reader's/Writer's Workshop. Students can choose to work at centers around the room or at their seats. Center 1 will be working with the teacher. In this center I will work with a small group of students on grade level reading skills. Center 2 will be reading independently, with a partner or with a small group. In this center students choose books or articles on their reading level to complete. This is a comprehension center. Center 3 will be vocabulary development/word work. In this center students work on a variety of worksheets using their weekly vocabulary words. Center 4 will be Fluency. In this center students read Fry words and Phrases, Practice Reader's Theater Scripts or read one minute fluency sheets. More information and updates as the weeks go on.
- Science - Next week student will lean about the Layers of the Earth.They will read books, articles and short stories as well as complete mini projects on this topic. There will also be several video's on Discovery Education that tell us about the Layers of the Earth.
