Weekly News - Update

  • I can't believe it is already November. Where has the time gone. It has been another very busy week in room 19.
  • In math this week student's continued to practice multiplying a one digit whole number by a decimal to the hundredths place. When multiplying using the traditional method or area model most students are beginning to understand the concept. The language is still very difficult for a few students. With practice and intervention help, hopefully all students will master the concept. Today we are beginning to divide a single whole number by a decimal up to the hundredths place. More information next week.
  • In reading we continued our Reader's/Writer's Workshop. Students received mini lessons about Main Idea and Details. They also worked in centers around the room. Student's were introduced to the Fluency center this week. They practiced reading and timing each other, for one minute, using a variety of one page fluency sheets. In writing a mini lesson on leads was taught and students practice writing leads for future narratives.
  • In Social Studies this week students continued to research information about their tribes. Many students are doing and excellent job with their research. Student's will begin drawing their maps within the next week or two. More information on this next week.
As always thank you for your support and cooperation. It truly appreciated. I am a firm believer that when home and school work closely together student's thrive. They become strong, independent learners. Have a wonderful and restful long weekend!
