Weekly News - Update

  • WOW!!! What a week it has been! Students in room 19 took the PARCC Assessment on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The assessment was taken on the computer. Our class went to the library and each student had their own laptop to work off. There were five adults proctoring the test. Students really enjoyed working on laptops and they felt they could answer the questions. On day one they read two stories, answered multiple choice questions as well as a constructed response (written response to a question about both stories). Questions were similar on day two except that they had to read three stories. Day three is a Narrative writing section. I'm glad my students had to take the PARCC as it allowed them to better prepare for next year. It allowed them to see what types of stories they will  have to read and the types of questions they will have to answer. Please ask them to tell you about it.
  • In Math this week we finished up the first half of module 3. Students will be given the mid-module assessment on Friday and Monday.
  • Because of the PARC testing we did not cover a story in Literacy. Students finished up their persuasive essays. They are due tomorrow.
  • In Science all groups are working on their information charts (natural disasters). They will begin presenting next week.
  • Thank you for making sure your children brought in their March project, The Power of Persuasion, on time. They will begin presenting on Friday during content class time. I am excited to see them. This project is always a class favorite.
  • Also because of the PARCC assessment I will not be sending home Friday Folders. Friday Folders will be sent home next week unless I have a concern.
As always thank you for your continued support from the home front. Enjoy the spring-like weather!!!!!
